Reel James Reviews I’m Your Woman

In the film I’m Your Woman (2020), housewife Jean and her baby are forced to go on the run and into hiding after her criminal husband Eddie causes chaos in the city resulting in gang warfare. Written and directed by Julia Hart, the film stars Rachel Brosnahan, Arinze Kene, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Bill Heck, Frankie Faison and Jarrod DiGiorgi. YouTuber James Profetto from the channel Reel James, shares his thoughts on the film now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Where I should have been locked into the movie, I felt detached and there were plenty of moments where the intensity was riding at an all-time high for the film and it didn’t result in anything. It didn’t amount to anything substantial and I felt like some of this was a little shallow.

Not terrible, but a little forgettable describes the YouTuber of the film. He feels the film is an intense slow burn movie that does have its moments but doesn’t do a great job in showing the audience the storyline other than telling us through character dialogue. He says of course there are certain aspects of the film where the audience is supposed to be the “detective” and discover along with the characters the unraveling of plots, but most of the time, it leaves him detached and with unanswered questions.

One aspect that he does enjoy is Rachel Brosnahan’s performance. He praises her incredible range and how well developed her character becomes as the layers of Jean are revealed throughout the film: “I understood her completely.”

However, by the end of the film, he is a bit disappointed and doesn’t feel very moved by any of the plot points, characters or conclusions.
