Perri Nemiroff Reviews The Haunting of Bly Manor

Mike Flanagan does it again with another highly anticipated horror story. Loosely based on the novella The Turn of the Screw, The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) is set to release on Netflix streaming this Friday. The series features new and returning stars from Flanagan’s previous series The Haunting of Hill House (2018): Victoria Pedretti, Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Rahul Kohli, T’Nia Miller, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Amelie Bea Smith. YouTuber Perri Nemiroff shares her thoughts on the spooky series just in time for the Halloween holidays.

This is one of the best ghost stories I’ve ever seen. I became deeply attached to this cast of characters. I was scared for them often and I’ve become borderline obsessed with the sense of hope that the show left me with even as it pertains to the darker part of human existence.

Just as The Haunting of Hill House captured the essence of a great horror story, The Haunting of Bly Manor continues to do the same, says the YouTuber. She notes like the first series in which she immediately fell in love with the Crane family, the new ensemble eventually emits a similar energy in their performance and chemistry.

Pedretti is wildly impressive yet again, especially when it comes to capturing the hurt and terror that Dani is experiencing without ever completely losing her determination and her genuine love for these kids.

Nemiroff thoroughly enjoys the series and is surprised by how well almost every aspect from the screenwriting, the cast and performance as well as the technical details like production and music, does an amazing job in really capturing the story.

All of this A+ work extends to every single department on the show too. The production design is stunning and also filled with valuable information in telling details and the same can be said for the costume work too. The score is phenomenal. Especially that theme that I’m never going to get out of my head now.
