In Stowaway (2021), a small crew on a mission to Mars is tasked with a new mission when an accidental passenger is found on board and endangers the lives of the entire ship. Written and directed by Joe Penna, the film stars Anna Kendrick, Daniel Dae Kim, Toni Collette, and Shamier Anderson. YouTuber Elliot from the channel Movie Files, shares his thoughts on the space sci-fi film now streaming on Netflix.
This film was incredibly flat and if I’m being blunt, it was quite boring for almost a 2 hour film … this film was labeled as a sci-fi thriller, the thrilling aspects were missing for me because this film could have went a certain way … but they often went the safe route.
As a fan of space and sci-fi genre films, YouTuber Elliot is left disappointed, let down and bored from the film. He points the issue mostly to the script and writing of the film in which he describes the final act, which traditionally is supposed to be the exciting climax and end game changer, as lacking emotion and lacking potential.
The YouTuber would have liked to have spent more time with the stowaway character played by Shamier Anderson and see his development as the unexpected factor on this important mission. However, the main character shifts focus toward Anna Kendrick's character, who the YouTuber says is often typecast and is a character she has played before.
The script was very bland and very generic, leaving the YouTuber to feel as if he had wasted too much time waiting for the conclusion of a film with such an interesting and fascinating concept. Elliot says the film is a missed opportunity for great plot points and despite having a great cast with great chemistry, the overall execution of the film fell flat.
