In the latest Netflix drama All Together Now, directed by Brett Haley, the film follows high school student Amber (Auli’i Cravalho) as she navigates through friendships and overcoming hardships all while striving to get into her dream school Carnegie Mellon University. The film stars Auli’i Cravalho as Amber Appleton and other notable actors such as Justina Machado, Carol Burnett, Judy Reyes and Fred Armisen. Is this just another teen movie? YouTuber Justin Watches Movies shares his thoughts on the new streaming flick.
You might think that it is a fun upbeat teen movie. But let me tell you it is not that kind of film. I cried in this film. I did. It’s been a while since I cried in a film but this movie, the emotions felt so real.
Having no expectations or knowledge about what the film is about, YouTuber Justin is blown away by the sheer emotional impact the film has on him. He describes the film as a devastating, heartbreaking, heartwarming film that he just did not expect.
The YouTuber praises actress Auli’i Cravalho for her outstanding performance in creating a believable and realistic character that as the audience, he was able to really connect with and find empathy with.
Because you are rooting for her. You want her to succeed. You want her to live a good life and she’s just not doing that throughout the film and when we have moments of her friends helping her, watching her reaction, it’s so powerful … those moments just work so well in the film.
Ultimately the YouTuber finds All Together Now to be a huge surprise and claims it is one of the best Netflix films he’s seen this year, giving it an A rating.
