Marianna Neal Reviews Palm Springs

What if you had to relive the same day over and over and over again? Palm Springs (2020), directed by Max Barbakow, follows two wedding guests as they get stuck in a time loop having to relive the same day over and over again. The movie stars Andy Samberg as Nyles, Cristin Milioti as Sarah, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, J.K. Simmons, and Peter Gallagher. Marianna Neal from the channel Impression Blend shares her thoughts on the Groundhog Day inspired romantic comedy.

This is definitely a take on that Groundhog Day premise … I actually think it’s a pretty fresh take on that premise and Palm Springs does stand out even thought this concept has been done multiple times before.

The whole Groundhog Day, time loop dilemma, is a movie concept that will always be interesting and enjoyable to watch, says Marianna. She finds the film funny, clever, charming and a refreshing take on the sci-fi element which is used well and in a way that makes sense to the audience. The stand outs for Palm Springs are definitely the performances from Samberg and Milioti, according to Marianna.

The stand out however was Cristin Milioti. I just could not get enough of her here and she clearly has a bright future ahead of her.

Though not a huge fan of Samberg, the YouTuber is surprised by how much she enjoys his performance as the happy go lucky Nyles who has embraced the fact that nothing they do matters because they are stuck in a never-ending rewind of the same day.

I am not the biggest fan of Andy Samberg, but I thought he was excellent in this film and really fit the character he was playing.

Because this is a movie trope that has been done before, there is no element of surprise and the movie is quite predictable, says the YouTuber, who wishes the film strayed away from some of the more cliché aspects of a time loop film, just to make it stand out a little. In the end she is still pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoys the film, which is now streaming on Hulu, rating it an 8/10.
