Dave Lee Down Under Reviews Safety

In the latest Disney sports flick Safety (2020), football scholarship student Ray puts his career and life on the line to help take care of his 11-year-old brother, all while trying to balance school, work and football. The film now streaming on Disney+ is based on the story of Ray McElrathbey, who played at Clemson University. Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the film stars Jay Reeves, Corinne Foxx, Hunter Sansone, Matthew Glave and Thaddeus J. Mixson. YouTuber Dave Lee from his channel Dave Lee Down Under shares his thoughts on the Disney original film.

This is an absolutely wonderful, absolutely charming little film. Which again as I said at the stop of this, is based on a true story. Now the greatest thing about the Disney sports movies is that they’re not just about the sports. They’re these films that use sports as their background as their backbone and they kind of use it as the narrative thread that ties together a more deeply human story.

Happy to see the Disney sports movie coming to the Disney+ platform, the YouTuber notes original movies like this will definitely get more eyes to the streaming service. He especially loves the chemistry between the two brothers Ray and Fahmarr; he praises the actors’ performances for portraying a “beautifully pure” relationship.

The film highlights the more inspiring side of humanity and has a lot of heart and soul, according to the YouTuber.
