In the film Promising Young Woman (2020), Cassie, plagued with so much anger and resentment towards men, has a chance encounter with a stranger who helps her slowly piece together the incidents of her past. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film stars Carey Mulligan as Cassie, Bo Burnham, Emerald Fennell, Alison Brie, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam Brody, Chris Lowell, and Connie Britton to name a few. YouTuber Chris Stuckmann shares his thoughts on the thriller now available on Amazon Prime Video.
Carrie Mulligan easily gives one of her best performances if not maybe my favorite performance I’ve ever seen from her in this film. She is very funny, extremely frightening and she has found a perfect balance between someone who is very very emotional about one specific thing that she cares about deeply but she hides it.
Impressed by the actor’s performance, Stuckmann praises Mulligan on her ability to perfectly portray a character who is carrying such a heavy weight on her shoulders full of deep emotional baggage. She is “fan-fucking-tastic in this film” exclaims the YouTuber.
What surprises the YouTuber most is the unpredictability of the plot, where just when he thinks it's going to go one way, the movie takes a turn for a different direction and especially in the ending where the YouTuber is still unsure of how he feels about the conclusion: “it just left me kind of like oh. Okay.”
