Chris Stuckmann Reviews Mank

In the Netflix drama Mank (2020), the film tells the story of 1930’s Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his life during which he writes and develops the movie script for Citizen Kane (1941). Directed by David Fincher, the film stars Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Tom Burke, Tuppence Middleton and Tom Pelphrey to name a few. YouTuber Chris Stuckmann shares his thoughts on the film that is now streaming on Netflix and showing in select theaters.

A lot of people will not like this movie. A lot of people are going to find it very boring. And there are stretches of the movie that I didn’t find myself particularly invested in, but I was floored by the film technically just as I am with all David Fincher movies.

The YouTuber finds himself in a similar predicament in regards to the movie as he did with Tenet (2020): the technicalities of the film are outstanding, but the storyline leaves him feeling emotionally distant. The film doesn’t do much to earn interest from its audience, according to Stuckmann. However, the way the film is shot: degradation of the frames with dust hairs, cracks and even sound mixing, someone unfamiliar with the actors and director will easily mistake the film to be from the 1930’s or 1940’s.

A technically brilliant film, but not one that he is probably going to watch again, says the YouTuber.
