AngryJoeShow says Ant-Man is true Marvel Comedy

In Marvel’s Ant-Man (2015), Scott Lang is scouted by retired S.H.E.I.L.D. scientist Hank Pym to take over where he left and face off against his former protégé billionaire Darren Cross. Directed by Peyton Reed, the film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lily, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Michael Douglas and Judy Greer. YouTubers Angry Joe, Other Joe and Delrith from the channel AngryJoeShow, share their thoughts on the marvel movie.

This is one of the funniest Marvel films out there … for me I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy a little bit more, but this one has that kind of crazy comedy.

The trio of friends all find the film to be surprisingly funny and entertaining. Angry Joe, who is also familiar with the original comics does wish the movie followed the story of the original Ant-Man character Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), instead of new character Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). However, when it comes to Paul Rudd’s performance as the ant controlling superhero, all of the YouTubers agree he does a great job.

I thought he was great. I honestly thought he was great. I thought he did the comedian role really well … holy crap this guy is pulling off Ant-Man really well.

Unsure at the very beginning because he was expecting the original Ant-Man story, Angry Joe enjoys Rudd’s performance and even notes how impressed he is by the actor’s physical commitment and jokes that he probably needs to hire the same trainers as all the Marvel superheroes.

Paul Rudd does great as Ant-Man. I kind of expected to not really buy him, I don’t know why, but he does great.

Part of the reason the YouTuber’s find Scott Lang such a great character, other than his comedic tones, is the character’s motivation for being Ant-Man and getting into that suit despite all the possible dangerous side effects. Lang has real motivations to win back his daughter and change his life around and deep down having a good moral compass, according to the trio.

You felt like he had a motivation to actually go on and do all this shit. Partially why he probably didn’t care whatever the side effects were. He was just like I’m doing this for my kid. I don’t give a shit.

Another fun part of the movie that Angry Joe very much enjoys is Ant-Man’s ability to control and interact with different types of ants. What a cool, unique and wacky super ability to have. Marvel definitely knows how to make crazy plotlines and make them work, according to Angry Joe.

The whole premise of the movie where Ant-Man can control ants, that was my favorite part. It reminded me a lot of Honey I Shrunk the Kids … it’s like a completely different world … as he’s training, he has to learn how to work with different types of ants … I loved the whole ant angle.

The one major aspect of the film the YouTubers find to be a negative point is with the villain Darren Cross aka Yellowacket (Corey Stoll). Yellowjacket is your generic, psychopath billionaire who just wants more money, according to the YouTubers, who feel there isn’t any unique take on the character who feels very one dimensional.

To me the Darren Cross character as Yellowjacket just was not interesting. It had the same sort of problem that Guardians of the Galaxy had where you couldn’t really get behind the villain … you have to feel that there is a threat there … he didn’t have much depth to him.

In the end, the YouTuber’s enjoyed the film and are looking forward to seeing the next chapter in the Ant-Man series.

The subplots were good, the supporting cast was good, the main cast was good … and ultimately although I really wanted to see the original Ant-Man and the original Wasp … it turns out, that was the older generation and this is the newer generation which fits in with the themes of the movie perfectly.
